Red, White and Goo

A Patriotic Spin on a 90's classic

By Kate Downes May 21, 2020

Attention 90's kids!  Raise your hand if you had gak?  How about floam? I'm pretty sure 99% of you have your hand in the air right now, myself included.  I can distinctly remember buying my pink gak at Toys R Us back when I was in elementary school.  Banned from my classroom, I would rush home from school to play with it and of course make the inappropriate "gas" noise by perfectly pressing my finger against the gak and its jar.

If you are currently strolling down your own memory lane, you might be excited to hear that you can make your own slime at home!  While it is not gak, this craft will certainly add fun, laughs and nostalgia to your memorial day weekend plans!

Here are the Red, White and Goo instructions:

Materials:

  • (3) 8oz of Elmer's white school glue; divided
  • 3T of Baking Soda; divided
  • 6T of Saline Solution; divided
  • Food coloring:  red and blue

Step by Step:

  • Place each 8oz container of glue into separate bowls.  Add drops of red food coloring to one bowl and drops of blue food coloring to another.  Do not add color to the third bowl.
  • Mix 1T of baking soda into each bowl.
  • Add 2T of saline solution into each bowl.
  • Stir then kneed the mixture to receive the desired consistency.
  • Store in a zip-top bag
