I have to be honest that right now I'm not 100% focused on writing this article. 50% of my brain is developing a story for you to read while the other 50% is thinking about my eleventh Elf poem. Yes, you did read that correctly that I have written eleven poems over the course of the last 10 days. Like many parents, I am on Day 10 of 24 of this year's Elf Adventures. My elf, who we call Bernie, has made an appearance each day leaving behind treats, crafts and activity suggestions for my little guys. While there have been many curse words uttered over the course of the last 240 hours, a large part of what has kept me going is the excitement in my oldest son's voice when he finds Bernie first thing in the morning. At four years old, my son truly understands who Bernie is, what he does and the magic behind him!
Knowing that I am not alone in my "love/hate" Elf relationship, I decided to share three of the poems that I have used this year, along with the "treat" that I paired with each poem. It is my hope that you might enjoy the inspiration, or better yet, appreciate the "night off" when using one of these with your Elf!
After purchasing a pre-made Gingerbread House, I wrapped the box and placed the gift under my kitchen sink. Bernie was hanging from faucet as a way to direct my sons' attention to the surprise!
Poem #2 = Cutting Down A Christmas Tree
While we did opt for an artificial tree for our front window, my husband and I thought that the boys would get a kick out of cutting down their own tree. With Bernie hanging from the branches of the artificial tree on morning #2, the boys knew exactly where we would be spending our afternoon!
Play doh is such a great, cheap, gender neutral treat to give to a kid. Both of my boys laughed so hard when they saw Bernie sitting next to a play doh tower when they walked into the den on morning #3!
